The domain release service is a free service offered to IDS clients. All clients have the access through IDS systems to issue delete commands for domains, however in some instances a more official approach is required. Official Domain Release The official domain release service works as follows: Step 1: IDS receives formal confirmation from the current registrant to delete a particular domain or portfolio of domains. Step 2: IDS submits a formal request to the registrar to delete the domain, this request is logged. If desired, at this time IDS also sends an email to a 3rd party to confirm the client delete. Step 3: The current registrar confirms to IDS the time that the deletion request was sent to the registry. If desired, this information can also be forwarded to a 3rd party confirming registrar delete. Step 4: The domain registrant no longer has control or ownership claim to the domain and the deletion process follows the rules dictated by the governing domain registry. This typically takes anywhere from a few minutes to a few months, but depends upon the governing registry. Domain Transfer Alternative If this domain is intended for re-registration and/or the 3rd party is not familiar with the jurisdiction's rules, IDS' domain transfer option offers a more secure means of delivery. |
